Charles reviewed the significant challenges to Baltic societies posed by the crisis and its aftermath in terms of the massive outmigration and serious socio-demographic problems.

Charles Woolfson wrote an opinion piece based on his ongoing research on ‘Management failure in the offshore industry: From Piper Alpha to Deepwater Horizon’, in a Special supplement on the Piper Alpha disaster in Safety Management, July edition. The Piper Alpha disaster in 1988 – the world’s worst offshore oil disaster in which 167 men were killed.

In these public contributions Charles critiqued the safety failures revealed by the Deepwater Horizon disaster and asks why the lessons of previous offshore oil tragedies failed to be properly learned.
